The Inter College Women's Association has been working in the field of women's development and empowerment since 1987 and has achieved significant success in its various endeavours....
Our Aims & Objectives :

  •  To bring about friendliness and solidarity among 15,000 and more staff and students of various women's colleges of Patna.
  •  To work zealously and unitedly for various women's issues.
  •  To be ever ready for action in cases of atrocities perpetrated on women.
  •   To develop in young women students self-esteem, self-confidence, uprightness, and leadership through intercollege programmes of value clarification and intellectual and cultural activities.
  •  To create increasing awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of our social milieu, especially with regard to women.
  •  To reach out to and help the wider society of women and children.

The Beginnings :

In July 1987, two university women, Ruby and Ragini, were murdered by their husbands. The women`s colleges of Patna joined in protest against such atrocities. Patna Women`s College took the lead and a committee of teachers of three colleges was formed. They organized a march, in which hundreds of teachers and students of several women`s colleges and other institutions of Patna walked through rain and slush to register their protest. They carried on the agitation for some weeks, till the police had arrested both the husbands and had, in one case, changed what was declared a suicide case into a murder case.....

The visit of a benefactor from Ireland, Mr. Carlos Pinto, on 12th December 2012

23rd Dec 2012 - Christmas Sports for Slum Children's Education Project. This time, for unavoidable reasons, neither the Jesuit premises nor the services of the Brothers were available for conducting the sports. Consequently, the childern had to forego the customary bus ride to the Jesuit Novitiate, which they enjoy. But, except for this, they missed nothing. The Alumni (those "children" who have finished school and are now in college) rose to the occasion to organize the events and did so very creatively. The venue was Patna Women's College ground. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

24th Feb. 2013 - Annual Day at the Special (Remand) Homes for Boys and Women Gaighat, Patna

8th March. 2013 - World Women's Day. The children of the Slum Project had a skit contest on the plight of girls and women in Indian Homes.

17th March. 2013 - Alumni outing to Rajgir and Pavapuri with Sister Celine.

Sport Day held on 23-12-12

On 23rd December,2012, the ICWA had a Christmas Programme featuring enjoyable Sports and Christmas gifts from Santa Between 15th and 30th January, 2013, the member colleges held the first of the two annual value-based seminars. This time it was on "Marriage".

On 27th January, 2013, Parent-Teacher's Day was held for the literacy centres. Besides discussing academic affairs, several children presented before their parents the speeches they had prepared for Republic Day. This was their first attempt at public speaking. On Sunday 24th February, 2013, the Remand Homes, Gaighat, Patna, are having their Annual Day.The Hon. Mr Justice S. N. Sinha, Chairman,Bihar Human Rights Commission, will be the Chief Guest and we hope to have Mr. Santosh Matthew , Secretary, Social Welfare, Bihar, as the Special Guest.
