Special (Remand) Homes :

Our work at The After Care Home for Women and Special (Remand) Home for Boys.

The Remand Home Committee constituted by the High Court:

  • Feb 1990 ( For After Care Home)
  • 1997 (For Boys' Special Home)
  • I.C.W.A appoints personnel to supervise and provide Vocational Training.
  • They work for 4 hours everyday.

Objectives of both the Homes :

  • Sanitation and hygienic living conditions
  • Rehabilitation

  • Literacy and ongoing studies
Health Related Activities :
  • Regular Health check-ups by doctors and nurses of Kurji Holy Family Hospital and distribution of medicine.
  • Eye Camp, medicines and spectacles distributed to those who need them .
  • Awareness programmes on AIDS and other diseases.
  • Morning Prayers are held for peace, harmony and strength.
  • P.T classes held in the morning under the guidance of I.C.W. A staff.
  • Yoga and games.
Sanitation and hygienic living conditions :
  • Construction of a new floor at the Boys' Home, with the help of UNICEF to segregate the guilty from the lost boys.
  • Supervision by I.C.W.A staff to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
Rehabilitation :
  • Educational Activites.
  • Motivating the deprived children to pursure education.
  • Guiding the diverted and off-track children to pursue higher education.
  • Skill development /Income generation activities.
  • Income-generatiing activity introduced in 1995 and Rs. 5,000/- sanctioned by the then Secretary, Mr. G. Krishnan, as a rolling grant.
  • Exhibition-cum-cultural programmes held twice a year to exhibit their talent and encourage the inmates.
  • Other Activities by I.C.W.A.- celebration at Republice Day, Independence Day, Diwali, Saraswati Puja, Christmas.
  • Donations:-Blankets, Clothes, Utensils,T.V and various games like, Carrom, Ludo, Volley Ball, Cricket etc.

Release :
  • Continuous effort by our lawyer for the release of the inmates. Till date more then 1,000 have been released.
  • Legal settlements of the court are done from the fund provided by I.C.W.A .
Additional Activity :
  • Sensitization Programme for Jail Personnel / Officials
  • Held twice a year.
  • Resource persons are mainly qualified psychologists, advocates, administrarors and educationists.
Purpose of the these seminars.
  • To make the officials more alert towards their responsibilities.
  • The staff get a chance to share their difficulties.
  • They are helped through group discussions to find solutions.
  • They go back to the Homes armed with action plans, and more sympathetic attitudes towards the inmates.
